Rare Southern Miniature Blanket Box
with Drawers, ca. 1830
Maximum dimensions: 6 inches (height), 11 ½ inches (width), 7 inches (depth). Primary wood: Walnut, Secondary woods: Yellow Pine & Tulip Poplar. Found in Newnan, Georgia.
Walnut box is dovetailed with applied molding at bottom from which the feet are formed. The feet have not lost height… made to accommodate the front folding out. Front is hinged at the bottom and drops down exposing two interior drawers under the top compartment. The two drawer fronts are walnut with poplar as the secondary wood, and have some type of old textile serving as the pulls (original). Balance of secondary wood in the piece is yellow pine. Appears to be original lock and hinges. Condition is excellent with age appropriate wear.
