Crawford County, GA Storage Jar
2nd half 19th Century
Attributed to: Crawford County, Georgia.
Approximate dimensions: 8 inches (height), 5 3/8 inches (diameter of bottom).
Excellent condition, with an insignificant firing separation on rim. Alkaline-glazed stoneware storage jar with, what appears to be, added monite/hematite, iron concretions.
NOTE: When this jar was first listed, it was attributed to South Carolina; however, on further research, it appears that it is most likely Georgia. See: Burrison, Brothers in Clay, The Story of Georgia Folk Pottery, pages 138 - 140.
