"ILLUSTRATED GROUP OF REBEL PRISONERS LETTER & ENVELOPE" (Dated September 10, 1864) by W. NEWMAN

Very Rare Civil War Sketch & Letter with Envelope. Sketch called "Group of Rebel Prisoners made by W. Newman, a Confederate prisoner at Elmira Prison Camp on September 10, 1864. On back of the primary sketch is another sketch called "Views from Exterior of Rebel Camp, Elmira. The sketch was presented by the artist to Prentice P. Norman, then a clerk in the Elmira Post Office, in recognition of service rendered. The letter was written by an Elmira Prison Camp prisoner and was routed through the Elmira Post Office.
