"RARE HAIDA ARGILLITE MODEL TOTEM POLE" (ca. 1970) by RUFUS MOODY (British Columbia, 1923 - 1998)

Rufus Moody was born in Skidegate, British Columbia. He trained with his father Arthur Moody and also taught many younger artists to carve. He produced the tallest argillite pole of 6 feet and is the holder of Order of Canada Medal. Rufus belonged to the Tanu Wolf Clan Crest, Raven Clan. This is an extremely fine Haida argillite totem pole by master Haida carve Rufus Moody. The totem is clearly signed "Rufus Moody C.M. on the bottom of the base. The "C.M. stands for the Canada Medal which Rufus was awarded from the government of Canada.
