"PAIR OF FINE LARGE OLD NORTHWEST COAST TLINGIT CEDAR MODEL POLES" (ca. 1930's)
Left totem: 14 ¾ (height), 13 inches (wingspan). Right totem: 15 ¼ inches (height), 12 inches (wingspan).
Hand-carved and painted cedar totem poles. The totems were part of the Walter Waters Store inventory, Wrangell, Alaska which was in business from 1920 – 1950. An excellent pair with important provenance. The totems feature winged thunderbirds standing over a bear with human captives. The pieces were carved by a master carver with excellent deeply carved details, and the original paints are bright and well-preserved.
