Very Large Alabama Pottery Jug
Probably late 19th century
5 gallons. 18 1⁄2 inches (height). No defects to note.
Wonderful, almost translucent glaze over a very fine kaolin clay. The clay body can be seen where the potters fingerprints are evident around the handle. Nice bulbous form, and a flat rim, as was the tradition with some Alabama potters. No doubt, this unique jug could be attributed to a specific potter by a scholar of Southern pottery.
