Extraordinary Folk Art Candle Box
Early 19th century
4 1⁄2 inches (height), 13 inches (width), 6 1⁄2 inches (front to back).
Probably Ohio or Pennsylvania. Primary wood: maple with tigering, secondary wood (bottom): poplar. Hand-carved design on front and back, dovetail joinery, cut nails. One of the best examples, a collector’s piece.
