Hand-carved Folk Art "Keystone Cop"
74 inches (height). Hand-carved hardwood (appears to be walnut), very minor restoration to paint.
Oral legend indicates this piece was carved for the J. L. Hudson Company department store in Detroit. “Founded in 1881 by Joseph L. Hudson, the store thrived during the first half of the 20th century. The family also founded the Hudson Motor Car Company, which eventually became part of the American Motors Corporation.” Reference: “The J. L. Hudson Company,” Wikipedia, 11/19/2009.
